
This semi-abstract scene captures the beauty of the Winter and the delicacy of life. It is painted to look like a wooden board.
The title is a reference to the colonial practice of declaring that native lands - in Canada, Australia and elsewhere - where unoccupied and could therefore be 'claimed' by the Empire.
