There are so many beautiful walks in the Rocky Mountains. But the inspiration for this one was a walk in Colorado, where there are dinosaur bones embedded in the hills. These lines and a black and white illustration from this painting are in my poetry book Explode:
touch the bones of dinosaurs
erupting from the flank of a hill
and in the same breath
caress a blade of grass unfurling
where your sandals touch the stones
all of this is sacred ground
